Staff Augmentation Methods

Your best people are sold one project at a time, and when the project ends so does the revenue. Staff augmentation sells the same people as capacity a client keeps paying for. It only works if they pass the client’s screening, win the interview and stay covered when someone leaves. This is the bootcamp session that builds it, in three live hours. The session is for digital marketing and software development agencies.

Why selling projects keeps you small

Session Overview

Many agencies sell their developers, designers and marketers one project at a time. The project ends, the person goes back on the bench, and the month starts again from zero. Meanwhile a buyer abroad needs exactly those people but does not want them on its own payroll.

Staff augmentation meets that need. It sells capacity that is not on the client’s payroll, as infrastructure, not gigs. This session starts with finding augmentation leads and the ideal buyer for them. Then it covers applying for the work and building profiles of your people that pass a client’s screening.

Next comes interview technique, because a resource who passes the profile still has to win the client’s interview. The session closes on contracts and the replacement bench. The bench is what keeps your promise to your own client when someone leaves.

The session is built on practice, not research. The group behind the program sold dedicated development and BPO teams of ten, fifteen and more than a hundred people.

What changes when you sell capacity
  • People sold one project at a time

Capacity a client keeps paying for

  • Profiles that fail the screening

Profiles that pass, and interviews that win

  • One resignation, one lost client

A replacement bench behind every placement

What changes when the three hours end

What You Will Be Able To Do After This Session

What you can do the day after the session that you could not do before it.

  1. 01Find augmentation leads, and name the buyer who needs your people
  2. 02Apply for augmentation work with profiles that pass a client’s screening
  3. 03Prepare your people for the client interview, and win it
  4. 04Put contracts in place that protect the placement and the agency
  5. 05Keep a replacement bench, so a departure never costs you the client
What your buyer is actually buying

A client abroad needs more capacity

  • Hire onto their payrollOne answer, and the one most clients assume they have.
  • Augment with your peopleCapacity that is not on their payroll. This session sells it.

Sold this way, your people are infrastructure the client keeps, not a project that ends.

Here is how the three hours get you there.

The three hours, in the order they run

Full Agenda, Hour By Hour

The session runs in four parts. The board below shows your people moving from your bench into a client’s team. Choose a movement to see where they stand by then, what it covers and the problem it answers.

Infrastructure, not gigs

What it covers

  • Staffing as infrastructure, not gigs
  • Finding augmentation leads
  • The ideal buyer

The problem it answers

Your people are sold one project at a time, so every finished project puts someone back on the bench.

Then

Applying, and profiles that pass

What it covers

  • Applying for augmentation work
  • Profiles that pass screening
  • Presenting your people

The problem it answers

Good people are turned down at screening because their profile undersells them.

Then

Interview technique

What it covers

  • Interview technique
  • Preparing your people for the client
  • From interview to placement

The problem it answers

A resource passes the profile and loses the interview, so the placement never starts.

To close

Contracts and the bench

What it covers

  • Contracts
  • The replacement bench
  • The replacement clause

The problem it answers

One resignation turns into a lost client, because the promise to replace someone was never backed.

The work after the session

Live Implementation And Homework

The session ends with work on your own team, and you build your first profiles in the week after it. The homework is small on purpose: one assignment, not a long worksheet.

  1. 1

Apply it to your own team

A small assignment after the session, done with your own people, not an example.

  2. 2

Post it to the topic thread

Questions and draft profiles go to this session’s Q&A thread, where the coaches and the cohort answer.

  3. 3

Decide if it is your model

Scalable Agency Business Models sets staff augmentation beside the other models, so you can tell whether it fits your stage.

What we ask of you

  • Turn up live: attendance is the first thing the programme measures.
  • Put it into practice between sessions, not only watch it.
  • Ask in the thread, and help the others.

Questions about this session

FAQs

What is staff augmentation, in plain terms?

It means selling your people to a client as capacity the client keeps, not as a project that ends. The client gets the people without putting them on its own payroll. Your agency gets revenue that continues as long as the placement does. The session covers how to find those clients and keep those placements.

Do I need a large team to start?

No. Bring the team you have. The session starts with finding augmentation leads and the ideal buyer, then covers the profiles, the interviews and the replacement bench that the placements need as they grow.

What happens when a placed resource leaves?

You replace them from your bench, which is the last part of the session: contracts and the replacement bench. The bench keeps your promise to your own client, so one resignation does not turn into a lost account.

Is staff augmentation right for my agency?

It suits some agency stages better than others. The Scalable Agency Business Models session sets it beside the other revenue models, so you can decide. This session covers how to run it once you have chosen it.
