What business development means for an agency

Program Overview

Agency business development consulting helps you develop how the business sells, prices its work and delivers what clients buy. For agencies selling into the United States, the United Kingdom or the Gulf, the work starts with the revenue model. We review whether prices cover costs and leave a profit, whether others can handle sales conversations and whether delivery can support new work. Sales tactics depend on those foundations.

The consulting applies these questions to your own agency’s figures throughout six months of work together. For example, reviewing your last six invoices can reveal whether prices cover the work you deliver. We then help develop pricing and a process other people can use when quoting. The scope is agreed before work starts, so both sides can assess progress by month four.

Your agency keeps responsibility for closing deals, taking sales calls and managing prospective clients throughout the engagement. We work with you to develop that operation inside the business. The aim is for your team and process to keep working after the six months end. This requires building the agency’s own ability to sell, beyond having an outside provider handle it.

This engagement suits an agency that already has a service to sell and clients who buy it. If you need to find your first client, consider a single bootcamp session before committing to six months. The consulting addresses a different situation: an established business that still depends on its owner for every sales conversation. It helps you build the process and team around that work.

How consulting differs from other support
  • An outsourced sales team

Your agency closes its own deals. We help develop a sales operation you can keep running after the contract ends.

  • A taught course

If what you want is teaching, the bootcamp sells it by the session from $125.

  • A year with a group of agency owners

The mastermind supports a group capped at twenty agencies. This consulting focuses individually on your agency.

Use the free consultation to discuss whether your agency needs individual business development work, teaching or wider support this quarter.

When your sales operation needs support

Who It Is For

This consulting is for digital marketing and software development agencies whose sales depend on the owner, lack a process or need a new market. Agencies with the same revenue can need different help. Compare how your sales work today with the situations below.

  1. All selling depends on you

You handle every lead, call, price and follow-up while also delivering the work clients buy. The business has paying clients, but your time limits how much it can grow. Other people need a defined way to take on parts of that work.

The first month reviews SWOT, strategy, resource allocation and roles, so responsibilities are defined before work is handed over.

  2. You have sellers and no process

Other people make calls, but results vary widely between sellers and from one month to the next. The problem often concerns a process that was never written down. Each seller follows their own approach, making results difficult to repeat.

The scope covers sales process and training after defining the team, before work on finding prospective clients.

  3. You are entering a market you have never sold into

Your agency delivers good work, but buyers in the new market do not know it yet. The approach that found clients at home may produce no enquiries there. Outreach, data and positioning need to reflect the new buyer’s expectations.

The scope covers data, social outreach, LinkedIn, cold calls and customised email for the market you are entering.

If you need to find your first client, a single bootcamp session at $125 is the right purchase.

The scope below shows what the consulting helps your agency develop.

The work covered by the engagement

What You Get Week By Week

The engagement develops your sales operation through diagnosis, team setup, outreach, conversion and measurement. The scope is agreed before work starts, so you know what the six months cover. The stages below explain the work and the outcome of each area.

  1. 1Diagnose

Review a written SWOT and strategy, allocate resources and define roles. Assign responsibility before handing work to someone else.

  2. 2Build the team

Develop the sales team, its process and the training people need to use it consistently. Staff augmentation supports areas where the team lacks capacity.

  3. 3Build the pipeline

Develop data, social outreach, LinkedIn, cold calls and customised email for the buyers in your target market.

  4. 4Convert

Develop negotiation, cross selling, upselling and closing so your team can manage the conversations needed to win and grow client work.

  5. 5Measure performance

Use KPI analysis and performance management to assess results and check that the sales operation keeps working after the engagement ends.

The Tier 6 page lists the full scope for this same engagement. You can read every item there before booking a conversation or signing a contract.

Dedicated support and work in your agency

Delivery Format And Time Commitment

The engagement combines dedicated weekly time with a consultant and work your agency completes between discussions. It runs one to one throughout a six month contract. Plan for both the discussions and the work you need to carry out.

Weekly
Two to three hours
Dedicated one to one time focused on the agreed work for your agency.
Contract term
Six months
The engagement works through the scope agreed before it starts.
Your work between discussions
Time to apply the work
Your agency carries out the work between discussions, which is essential for the engagement to produce useful change.

The monthly fee covers work on the agreed scope throughout the contract, including the dedicated discussions. The engagement is priced for that scope and term. The weekly time describes how the support is delivered, so it is not sold as separately priced consultation hours.

If you need a single consultation hour without a six month engagement,

that is sold on its own at $199

Monthly fee and contract term

Experience running different agency revenue models

Coaches And Subject Matter Experts

Advice comes from experienced trainers including Hamid Mahmood, Asim Naeem and Umair Amjad, who bring experience running agency businesses. Hamid has earned revenue through every model the programmes teach, in the order they teach them. The examples below show that progression and what changed in each business. Consulting starts by identifying your revenue model and whether it still suits your agency.

  1. Fixed project pricesHTML Pro

HTML Pro sold agency websites and small ecommerce builds as individual projects. The work had high volume and low margins, with new sales needed every month.

This model helps explain why an agency may need to find new work at the start of every month.

  2. Monthly retainersShopify Pro

Shopify Pro moved the same work onto monthly retainers, which made revenue more predictable from one month to the next.

Agencies considering this move need to decide how to price recurring work.

  3. Dedicated teamsSoftware Pro

Software Pro developed sales of dedicated development and BPO teams of ten, fifteen and more than a hundred people.

In this model, the agency sells dedicated team capacity to clients.

  4. Shared ownershipCo-owned centres

A client in the United States owns the operation, while the local business manages HR, infrastructure and administration.

This gives agencies another model to consider alongside projects, retainers and dedicated teams.

Where Umair posts

Umair built the staff augmentation practice he teaches and brings that business experience to his advice. The opening reviews below come from clients of his own agency, separately from people describing a cohort.

Member Results And Reviews

The opening reviews are from clients of Umair Amjad’s own agency and describe their experience buying its services and receiving the work. Agency owners discussing advisory support follow them, then further reviews, mostly from programme members. These describe the team’s wider experience, rather than results from this six month contract.

FAQs

Do you sell for us, or teach us to sell?

We work with you to develop your agency’s sales operation, while your team remains responsible for selling. The six month scope covers process, team, prospective clients and measurement. It does not include closing deals on your behalf or a taught course. The aim is an operation your agency can keep running after the contract ends.

How is this different from the Tier 6 page on your bootcamp?

It is the same engagement, price and contract. The Tier 6 page lists the scope in full for people comparing bootcamp tiers. This page explains the service for people comparing business development consultants. You can use either page to assess the same purchase.

What if six months turns out to be the wrong length?

The contract term is six months, with the scope agreed before work starts so both sides can assess progress by month four. The full scope is published on the Tier 6 page. Read it before signing to understand the work covered by that term.

Why will you not quote an hourly rate?

The consulting is priced by its agreed scope and six month term, with dedicated discussions included in the monthly fee. It is not sold as a purchase of individual hours. If you only need a single consultation, you can buy an hour separately for $199.

Our problem might be delivery rather than sales. Is this still right?

Possibly not; use the free consultation to establish that before signing a contract. If your agency cannot deliver the work it already sells, finding more prospective clients will not solve that problem. Operations and delivery may need different support or a different programme.

Can we do this and the mastermind at the same time?

Yes, they are separate purchases, although most owners need only one of them. The mastermind follows a fifty two week roadmap with a group capped at twenty agencies. Consulting focuses individually on your agency for six months. Use the free call to discuss which support fits before deciding to buy both.
